SAVE OUR SAVANNAH
Working Toward a Safer Savannah for Everyone, Everywhere, Everyday
September 21, 2006
Dear Members and Friends:
We are excited that several good crime prevention items are proceeding forward. First, rumor has it that a new police chief has been selected and he is extremely well qualified. We hope to hear the official news on Friday, September 22.
Second, and equally exciting, we have met with the City several times over the last couple of months and we are very close to working out a joint private/public participation in placing lighting and cameras in all of the twenty-one squares downtown. If all goes as planned we would expect to begin placing the cameras and lights in January 2007. We will continue to work on this project but at this point we feel that collaboration is good for the City, good for business and also good for citizens and tourists alike.
The third thing that is good for the good guys, and bad for the bad guys is that some of the SPLOST funds are going to be used to install computers in all of the police vehicles. This will enable them to communicate more effectively with the various databases they need. In addition, we expect that each vehicle will have the capability of connecting to our cameras throughout the city. This is a tremendous crime prevention tool that is coming up soon.
SOS trying to make Savannah Safer for everyone, everywhere, everyday!
Keep tuned your participation makes our system work!
